Commissions are soooo fun!

I'm working on a commission piece right now and having soooo much fun!!! Although this isn't my first commissioned art piece, it is the first one commissioned by someone I don't know. I am so excited and hopeful that it is going to be even more than hoped for. And, even if I do say so myself, the piece is shaping up to be UH-mazing! More on this later... :D

Winter break

Well, I really enjoyed the December First Friday and I sold 4 pieces! I'm going to skip January and do a bit of winter hibernating. I am pondering what I want to do with my art and business in 2009. What will I enjoy the most? What will be the best living? That sort of thing. I suspect I will be back to FF in February, but we'll see. I went to all three of the big local art fairs this season, Fountain Hills, Scottsdale and Tempe. I think I liked Scottsdale the best, it's a gorgeous location. I got lots of good info, saw a lot of beautiful and inspiring art and managed to keep spending to a reasonable minimum. ;-) So, here's to a peaceful and joyous holiday season!!

Hello from AZ

Well, it's been a loooong time since I've posted! I'm settling in here in the desert and starting to make my way into the artist community. Next up is the First Friday artwalk which I will be participating in as a vendor for the 2nd time. The first time went really well, 7 sales and tremendous feedback. I'm hoping this time will go equally as well, if not better!!

*sigh*

Today was the first day I worked on my art in quite a while. I have been spending a lot of time working and traveling and oh boy, is it nice to get my creative juices flowing again. I guess I forget how much I enjoy it and how it enlivens me. Glad to be back!

The business of art

So, I recently bought some software for tracking artwork/inventory for artists. So far, I'm really happy with it. I was starting to worry that I was creating this big body of work but that as soon as I start selling/showing some of it, I'd be in for an administrative nightmare! I know myself and in the past, I haven't been very good about tracking what pieces are in what shows and to whom my art sells. I'm thinking this was a smart investment! It was $39 on special and it's been really easy to use. http://www.artworkspro.com/ So, ever onward with the arting!

Great quote!

I've got this quote on my inspiration board right now and every time I read it, I sigh: "We constantly resist not only our grief, but also our wild passion and sexuality, our anger, even our exuberance and joy, repressing their free expression. Big feelings overwhelm us. They can easily upset the fragile equilibrium of our lives. We keep a lid on ourselves, till we periodically explode. We don't realize that any deep feeling, pleasurable or painful, can be a wave we surf home into ourselves, into love." -- From The Translucent Revolution: How People Just Like You Are Waking Up And Changing The World by Arjuna Ardagh

Welcome back!

I've been away at a conference (in Florida, no less!) and am just now getting back in the swing of things! I haven't worked on any art for at least a week and oh boy do I miss it when that happens. I wonder sometimes if it would be feasible to come up with small projects to take with me but so far it seems like more work than fun to do that. Hope you're all well and busy being creative. :-)
