*sigh*

Today was the first day I worked on my art in quite a while. I have been spending a lot of time working and traveling and oh boy, is it nice to get my creative juices flowing again. I guess I forget how much I enjoy it and how it enlivens me. Glad to be back!

The business of art

So, I recently bought some software for tracking artwork/inventory for artists. So far, I'm really happy with it. I was starting to worry that I was creating this big body of work but that as soon as I start selling/showing some of it, I'd be in for an administrative nightmare! I know myself and in the past, I haven't been very good about tracking what pieces are in what shows and to whom my art sells. I'm thinking this was a smart investment! It was $39 on special and it's been really easy to use. http://www.artworkspro.com/ So, ever onward with the arting!

Great quote!

I've got this quote on my inspiration board right now and every time I read it, I sigh: "We constantly resist not only our grief, but also our wild passion and sexuality, our anger, even our exuberance and joy, repressing their free expression. Big feelings overwhelm us. They can easily upset the fragile equilibrium of our lives. We keep a lid on ourselves, till we periodically explode. We don't realize that any deep feeling, pleasurable or painful, can be a wave we surf home into ourselves, into love." -- From The Translucent Revolution: How People Just Like You Are Waking Up And Changing The World by Arjuna Ardagh

Welcome back!

I've been away at a conference (in Florida, no less!) and am just now getting back in the swing of things! I haven't worked on any art for at least a week and oh boy do I miss it when that happens. I wonder sometimes if it would be feasible to come up with small projects to take with me but so far it seems like more work than fun to do that. Hope you're all well and busy being creative. :-)

Productivity

I have been making art like mad recently! Not only that, but really having fun doing it. I've started a new series of pieces on wooden moulding blocks that are carved using a burner and then colored using acrylic inks. I was finishing them with a Sculpey glaze but was told that it can eventually yellow and so have switched to a floor wax (who knew?!) that takes 15 - 20 coats to get a good glossy finish but it looks great and makes for a very professional quality finish. I think these will sell pretty well since they're small - medium in size and have quite fun and cute themes. As of now, I'm mostly doing underwater scenes and some floral/forest landscapes. What have you been making lately my creative compatriots?? :-)

I went to a show at this space last month and very much enjoyed the show as well as the space, which I had never been to before. This looks like another great lineup of artists. I would love to show here!!
